Tuckasegee Riveris formed in SE Jackson County by the junction of Panthertown and Greenland Creeks and flows NW through central Jackson County and into Swain County, where it enters Little Tennessee River. Named for the Cherokee Indian town Tsiksitsi, which stood beside the river; the word means "crawling terrapin," referring to the sluggish movement of the water.
