Buxtoncommunity on Hatteras Island, SE Dare County. One of the most thickly populated sections of the Outer Banks. Formerly known as The Cape (for Cape Hatteras), but the post office was changed to Buxton, 1882. Named for Judge Ralph P. Buxton (1826-1900).
