Whitehouse	community in N Rutherford County between Cove and Otter Creeks. A stockade for the protection of settlers against Indians was erected in the vicinity of nearby Montford Cove Church in the eighteenth century.
Whitehurst	community in N Pitt County served by post office, 1900-1906. Settled about 1890 and known as Grindool (post office operated by that name, 1890-1910) until early in the twentieth century, when the name was changed to honor S. C. Whitehurst, local farmer. Alt. 68.
