According to a report from the North Carolina Employment Security Commission, in the first quarter of 2009 the largest NC manufacturers, by number of employees, were (1) International Business Machines, (2) Smithfield Foods, Inc., and (3) Glaxo SmithKline. In the first quarter of 2010, the businesses were, in descending order, Smithfield Foods Inc, International Business Machines, and Hanesbrands Inc.
