Cowan's Ford

over Catawba River at the Lincoln-Mecklenburg county line, now under the waters of Lake Norman. Cornwallis, pursuing Gen. Nathanael Greene, crossed the Catawba there after a sharp fight on February 1, 1781, in which Gen. William Lee Davidson was slain.
