| Jockey's Ridge | sand dune 80-100 ft. high a short distance N of Nags Head, Bodie Island, E Dare County. It is the highest coastal sand dune on the Atlantic or Gulf coasts. Apparently indicated by a symbol but not named on the Mouzon map, 1775; the name was in use by 1851. Designated state park 1973 and U.S. Natural Landmark 1975. |
