Northern-style Mexican "country music," now popular throughout North America. Earlier norteño instrumentation used Spanish guitars along with accordions, the tuba, and other Central European elements introduced by German, French, and Czech immigrants. Today, electronic instruments predominate in banda music. Mexico produces a wide variety of music enjoyed in Latin America and the United States including salsa, cumbia, romantic ballads, and popular musics of different types.
