Australian soldier in Korea, 1951

During the Korean War, Private Chris Bell-Chambers, sniper of the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment, smiles and waves to a group of Korean children who have come out of hiding following the liberation of their village from enemy forces.

39 countries participated in the Korean War. More specifically, over 17,000 Australians served. The Cold War also was the start of international adoptions. The adoptions were often organized through religious groups or private organizations.
