Classroom books

Classroom books

Books in a fifth-grade class are organized by topic, with easy-to-browse paper labels. Students can select an independent reading book based on interest. According to Dr. Joan Barnatt, “adding [nonfiction] books to the menu of reading opportunities in a classroom is a simple means of addressing individual interests to foster active, engaged readers. This increases the amount of time spent reading, which ultimately contributes to comprehension.”
