Grey sea view of rocky island silhouettes in Halong Bay

A view from a boat shows grey pastel silhouettes of rocky islands in Halong Bay between Bai Chay and Cat Ba. Most of the more than 3,000 islands in Halong Bay are small and uninhabitable.

A Vietnamese legend tells that the thrashing tail of a great dragon running from the mountains toward the sea chopped up the land, leaving only the current rocky islands visible above the water in Halong Bay.
