Harbor of Manzanillo, Mexico

Small and large boats fill an ocean harbor. A few men sit in the small boats in the foreground. Beyond them two larger boats sit at anchor. In the background low hills rise on the far shore. Manzanillo is a large seaport town on Mexico's west coast. It was founded early after the Spanish conquest of Mexico and became an important ship-building port during the colonial period. The name of the town comes from the Manzanillo tree, which provided essential raw materials for building ocean-going ships. Today the town is Mexico's busiest port and a popular tourist destination.
