A hut in the hills above Banos

A small hut is nestled in the midst of lush vegetation on a hillside.

Even though Ecuador boasts many metropolitan cities with the most modern conveniences, many parts of the country remain quite rural. Most of the Quechua-speaking Andean Indians practice subsistence agriculture or raise a few sheep for wool to sell at market. In these indigenous enclaves, traditional language, religion, and customs live on.
