Mountains rise over fields north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

A mountain range rises beyond brown fields dotted with green trees. Puerto Vallarta is a port town on Mexico's west coast. It is a popular port of call for cruise ships and has developed a vibrant tourism industry. The town is celebrated for its constant tropical weather as well as its beaches and adjoining islands. Recently, pollution from inadequate city sewage capabilities has caused health problems with its coastal waters, leading to a downturn in tourism.
