Nepalese porters resting

A Nepalese man is resting his load on one of the many resting platforms built along the walking trails in the mountains of Nepal. Resting platforms are important feature of mountain life. Many people provide labor and material to build these platforms as a part of earning merit in the present life so that the after-life remains pain-free. In the distance we see a women, who also carries a load on her back. The movement of goods by human labor is called portering, and it is one of the major ways for transporting goods in most of the mountains in Nepal. Both men and women do heavy labor in portering.
