North Carolina's coastal zone

Map of the major towns and coastal features of the North Carolina coastal system. Students use this map to locate inlets in the barrier islands and examine the effect these inlets have on the estuarine system, to infer the various salinity gradients found in the estuaries of the coastal region, and to locate and analyze the back-barrier sounds in the Northern Province.
