Ravana arrives on golden chariot to fight (Thai Ramayana mural)

Ravana arrives on his chariot to fight, as seen in a mural detail at the Emerald Buddha Temple. The ten-armed Ravana perches atop his gold chariot wielding spears, swords, and lances in each hand. His remaining allies, dressed in gold, run at the sides of his two-wheeled chariot. The chariot is pulled by two lion-like demon creatures.

Because most of his demon soldiers have been killed in prior battles, and Ravana knows that the end of his efforts to retain Sita are near, Ravana decides to fight himself. If necessary, he wants to die nobly like a king at the head of his troops.
