Participants, Some Carrying American flags, Marching in the Civil Rights March, 1965

In this black and white photograph, a stream of black and white people are walking down a street in what appears to be a mostly residential neighborhood. Some are carrying American flags while a few others carry umbrellas or small cases. Tall leafless hardwoods in front of a white house with small windows and gingerbread details make up the greater portion of the background. To the right, a sign is partially captured that advertises Coca-Cola at the E. A. Drinkard Grocery.

The march was a five day, 54 miles, from Selma, Alabama to Alabama's capitol, Montgomery. participants included locals, members of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Commitee (SNCC), the Dallas County Voters League, and the Southern Christian Leadership Converence.
