Spectators watch funeral procession of serpent figure and royal umbrellas

Spectators, both locals and foreign tourists, watch the funeral procession as a colorful red serpent figure and two royal purple and gold umbrellas are carried by.Men with matching yellow knit shirts and white headscarfs carry the undulating red serpent figure on a golden platform. A carved stone wall and thatched roof building are visible in the background.Although such royal style funerals as this July 23, 1986 event are staged for the benefit of the deceased's family and village, cremation rituals are open to the public and have become popular attractions for foreign tourists who frequent Bali.
