Tiled roofs in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Tiled roofs in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

In the foreground sits a round or octagonal house with a red-tiled roof. In the background, dozens of similarly roofed houses climb a hill. The house in the foreground is surrounded by flowering plants and trees. Puerto Vallarta is a port town on Mexico's west coast. It is a popular port of call for cruise ships and has developed a vibrant tourism industry. The town is celebrated for its constant tropical weather as well as its beaches and adjoining islands. Recently, pollution from inadequate city sewage capabilities has caused health problems with its coastal waters, leading to a downturn in tourism.
