The Kellenberger Historical Foundation (formerly the May Gordon Latham Kellenberger Historical Foundation) was established in 1979 in New Bern, following the donor's death on 1 May 1978. The foundation limits its giving to Craven County and New Bern. It aids and supports projects related to Tryon Palace Historical Sites and Gardens and Historical New Bern, with emphasis on building/renovation, program development, publication, and research. The donor's husband, John Kellenberger, served as treasurer of the Tryon Commission. Besides their work with that organization, the Kellenbergers gave generously to many causes in the Greensboro area.
