Place Description
Balsam Gap

at the head of Richland Creek in W Haywood County. It is the lowest gap in the Balsam Mountain. Through it passed a prominent aboriginal Indian trail; a highway and railroad also pass through it now. Alt. 3,347.

community in W Transylvania County on North Fork French Broad River.

Balsam High Top

mountain on the Haywood-Swain county line between Beech Gap and Laurel Gap in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Alt. 5,688.

Balsam Mountain

on the Haywood-Swain-Jackson county line, centering near lat. 35°35' N., long. 83°12' W. Tricorner Knob, which see, is at its junction with the main divide of the Great Smoky Mountains. Also known as Chiltoskie Ridge in Swain County. See also Richland Balsam.
